The Voice's Karl Michael: 'Ed Sheeran Was The Reason I Lost My First Record ... - Entertainmentwise

The Voice contestant Karl Michael spoke to EntertainmentWise this week and told us that he lost his first record contract with Atlantic due to record label bigwigs putting all their time and attention into Ed Sheeran.

The 27-year-old, who is currently competing in the BBC1 singing competition, told us that whether an artist is competing on a show like The Voice or putting together their debut album, being 'pro-active' is extremely important.

"Danny made a really good point to me the other day and its a point that I've lived by since we first met. When you do The Voice or a TV show and you finish the TV show, you can't wait for people to come running to you, you have to go running to them."

He then added: "If you've got a day off, fill it with a writing session or you know go out and gig like Ed Sheeran! The best example! That's the reason we got dropped from Atlantic, as soon as Ed come on the label.

He was just throwing ideas at the company and they were like we've got it good man. Lets give him all of our attention and he became the priority act and we got dropped!"

Ouch!

But Karl carries no bitterness towards the Lego House singer and believes losing his contract with Atlantic may have worked out for the best.

"Its good though, everything happens for a reason and I think, I used all that stuff before for learning experiences and now I've got ideas that are ready to roll. I'll never ever let my guard down again."

The London singer even started working on album and has let his coach Danny O'Donoghue hear some of his new material.

"I'm writing while I'm doing The Voice, I'm using every second to my advantage."

The Voice will be shown on BBC1 tomorrow (June 15th) at 7pm.
